Playrix's Foray into Social Games
Fun Projects Underway
November 20, 2009 by Dasha Kobzeva

Have you ever wished you could share the fun of playing Playrix games with your friends? Get them involved and compete for a higher score? Well, here you go!

Social networking games are something we have just started to explore. Now we have an internal team working on social games for Facebook, MySpace and vkontakte. Social games are all about interaction, competing with your friends for high scores and having fun together. What makes social games special for a casual games developer is that we can continue working on them after they go live, adding cool features and tailoring them to the needs of you, our players.

Our first Facebook game, Olympic Gems, has debuted in the beta form on Facebook just a couple of months ago. It is a match-3 game jam-packed with fun features and twists. It takes you and your friends on an exciting gem-swapping journey back to ancient times to conquer Mount Olympus. In Greek mythology, Mount Olympus was regarded as the abode of the gods and the site of the throne of Zeus.

Olympic Gems: Conquer Mount Olympus! Become the almighty king of the gods, by competing with
your friends in this compelling match-3 game!

As you progress you not only get points, but you also advance from an insecure slave to the almighty king of the gods. The game is timed – only 90 seconds are assigned to complete the session. Although the ticking timer draws you closer to the edge of your seat, making use of two kinds of explosive power-ups adds you bonus seconds and lets you breathe easier. What’s more, every new high score is followed by a funny picture and description. Want to tease your friends and ramp up the competitive juices? Go ahead and send them our side-splitting taunts.

Funky Feathers

Within the next couple of days we are launching an updated version of the game with major improvements in graphics, new achievements and microtransactions. Keep your eyes peeled for it!

As for the plans, well, there’s a lot in store. First we have another very fun social project in the works that we’re very excited about that will be going live shortly – Funky Feathers. Besides, we are bringing the social adaptation of Fishdom to Facebook early next year.
